Uttar Pradesh Government to Track Textbook Distribution with QR Code Technology

From the start of the 2023-24 academic session, the Uttar Pradesh government will now track and trace the distribution of almost 12 crore textbooks.

The online monitoring system will be based on QR (Quick Read) code technology and will aim to send 16 million books to 1.8 million kids in grades 1 through 8.

The online QR code technology, exclusive to each textbook, was developed in partnership with a private IT business.

This month, the education department will trial the Workbook Textbook Management System (WTMS) in 1,000 schools in Lucknow.

The method will ensure that free textbooks are distributed to students promptly, transparently, and paperlessly.

The online tracking system aims to follow books from the time they are printed at the textbook firm (printers) until they are distributed to pupils at the school level.

Vijay Kiran Anand, director of general school education, stated: "The WTMS module will assist us in tracking books at many levels, including printers, blocks, districts, clusters, and schools.

In this manner, we can pinpoint the point at which the distribution is stalling and work to speed it up. We will also know the exact amount of books supplied to schools."
